Walnut Bowl with Blue Stone Inlay
Walnut Bowl with Blue Stone Inlay
If you'd like to see the full process of how this bowl was made, check out the link here: https://youtu.be/T_42fverOt0
This bowl was made from a single piece of black walnut. Once the bowl was mostly shaped, an inlay was turned into the rim, which was then filled with small blue stones and cast in epoxy resin. The bowl was finished with a micro fine polishing paste and carnuba wax that was burnished into the bowl, making the final product durable and water resistant (but not waterproof).
Dimensions
Weight: 0.81lbs (0.37kg)
Height: 2.5" (6.35cm)
Diameter (top): 7.19" (18.26cm)
Wall Thickness: 0.44" (1.11cm)
Imperfections
This piece of walnut contained several large cracks that can be seen in some of the photos included here. Also, the inner portion of the inlay (the part that is still wood) came out thinner than the outer portion (this can also be seen in several of the included photos).
Care, Cleaning & Maintenance
It must be explicitly stated that this bowl is for decorative purposes only. While water resistant, this finish is not waterproof, and any water that does happen to get onto the bowl should be wiped off immediately and the bowl left to dry. This bowl should never be put in a dishwasher. This finish is food safe, and the bowl can be used as a serving dish so long as the food items are not very moist (water left on the wood for a long time can lead to stains in the wood).
For dust and dry debris, simply use a soft microfiber cloth or towel to clean. If applying water and/or gentle soap to the towel, be sure to quickly dry the bowl off once finished. For any light scratches that may develop on the bowl with prolonged use, the original gloss can be restored by using a wipe on wax, such as beeswax.
